For an upcoming reception honoring fashion designer Bill Blass on his guest editorship of Civilization magazine, MDesign was asked to create a unique invitation to the event. Known for his elegant and stylish clothing, we felt that the invitation itself should be a reflection of that taste. With that in mind, we combined elegant typography, Mr. Blass’ favorite portrait, and his favorite color (red) into an unusual foldout piece printed on semi-transparent vellum. The front panel of the piece has only the red frame; the portrait itself was printed inside the invitation and was viewed through the opening in that frame. The remainder of the reception information was gradually revealed with each successive panel. The invitation generated immediate positive response and a record turnout for the event.
