| The
Robert Mapplethorpe Residential Treatment Facility, funded in part
by the Mapplethorpe Foundation and administered by Beth Israel Medical
Center, is a group home catering to the needs of AIDS patients with
substance abuse problems. To celebrate five years, MDesign was asked
to create an informational brochure for the facilitys upcoming
anniversary event. In honor of the namesake, we chose a Mapplethorpe
photograph for the cover that was not only beautiful, but seemed to
exemplify the facilitys theme of openness and hope. (Additional
Foundation photos were also included on the back cover.) A metallic
blue ink was specified to reflect the festivity of the occasion yet
not betray the seriousness of the facilitys mission. Interior
photographs were taken on-site by MDesign to give the piece immediacy,
and quotes from both current and former house residents and families
provided testimonial support. Rave reviews at the event encouraged
the facility to also use the brochure as a fundraising tool, and it
was instrumental in expanding public awareness of the program. |
