was asked to develop an advertising section for Tourneau watches that
would link great literature to great timepieces; four books, and quotes
therein, were chosen to expand on this theme. We felt it would be
visually appealing to show the whole section as a classic book, so
a photograph of the cloth cover of a book was used to open the pages,
with an image of the inner working of a watch set into it. The backgrounds
of the inner pages of the section were also photographs showing paper
texture and page leaves to the sides. Images were selected to compliment
the various quotes, and vignetted and set into the pages so that the
background texture showed through. An elegant, serif typeface was
chosen as the main font, with an old-fashioned handwritten face used
for the authors names. The watches were silhouetted and not
blended with the background texture so that they would be set apart
and the delicate details of the pieces themselves would not be lost.
Copy for the watch descriptions were set in a modern sans serif face
to help separate out the sections practical information. |
